love is…
An ode to love and motherhood by aza d
Love is different for everyone.
Love is a kiss from your mom on the forehead when you’re least expecting it.
Love is experiencing any form of art alone or with friends.
Love is doing things for yourself washing and styling your hair, cleaning your clutter-filled room, cleaning your house, and then sitting down burning sage and incense or drinking a glass of wine while listening to your favorite tunes.
Love is the warm feelings, the tingles the absolute feeling of wholeness from whatever is near and dear to you.
May it be a significant others hug after a long day. May it be the excitement from your precious children after you have had the longest day at work and they just wanna shower you with hugs and kisses and tell you how much they’ve missed you.
Love is been wrapped in dark mental thoughts and your core friends simply just telling you they are there to lean on to cry, to sing with, to laugh with, and to extend their hands to help you pull yourself out of the darkness. ( I for one need this and appreciate this in the depths of my soul because at times the feeling of giving up or just quitting really consumes me and I am grateful for my people! )
Love is depicted in so many ways that there is no one answer to what love is as a whole Love can be whatever makes you smile whatever makes you happier and feel better in life and to me, Love will always be enough to make the world keep spinning!
Being present in this Black history month and the month of love (as if black history month isn’t every month) I try to teach my mixed-race children to love themselves for all of who they are but especially their blackness that comes from their Brown momma! I don’t ever want them to feel as though they need to have a complex about who they are, so reassuring them is my job! I am a strong mom of soon-to-be three beautiful children and I want them to feel nothing but absolute protection from me.
Our history will always be deep within our blood, the horrific and graphic encounters for women of color who were fair in the skin like my children- I won’t ever let them forget because I want my children to change the narrative and be better than their other half! February is the month of love and I just wanted to share some insight on where my love comes from what pushes me what guides me through this life the unmatched love of my baby owls! They are literally my light! But that’s a whole other rant so I will end this with peace love and blessings! Stand firm in your melanin Stand firm on your word and continue to be unapologetically black Queens and Kings!
